SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) -- Officials responded to reports of a house explosion in South Jordan on Wednesday afternoon.
South Jordan City posted on social media that the reported incident took place in the neighborhood of 10500 S and 3200 W. Fire officials told ABC4.com that crews were called to the scene around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
"Upon arrival, we had significant smoke and flames and what appears to be some type of explosion that occurred associated with this," Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Lessner with the South Jordan Fire Department told ABC4.com. "We're still early in the investigation to figure out what exactly occurred."
Lessner said one family member is unaccounted for, and officials don't know if anyone was inside the home at the time of the explosion. Officials are working to locate that person, Lessner said.
The two houses next to the affected home received some damage, but Lessner said no major damage was sustained. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
The South Jordan Police Department has closed 3200 West "for an undetermined time," but the road is expected to be opened as soon as possible after the investigation, Lessner said.
Lessner said several units and resources from across Salt Lake County responded to assist with the incident. No firefighters reported injuries after the incident.
